About
Melanie
Education…
Melanie attended the University of Massachusetts at Boston, where she
received both a B.A. and M.A. degree in Sociology. She is also a Registered
Nurse with an Associate Degree from Massachusetts Bay Community College
and has been working in healthcare since 1992. She has worked with a variety
of populations, including psychiatric, geriatric, pediatric, and special
needs and developmentally delayed adults and children in both institutional
and home care settings.
Melanie worked
in the field of social research for five years, in both the public and
private sectors, before entering nursing school.
Melanie studied
indexing by completing Susan Holbert’s workshops. She continues
her education in the field of indexing through participation in a variety
of publishing-related associations.
Abilities…
Melanie has the ability to comprehend and assimilate information
quickly. Her ongoing interest in a diverse number of academic subjects
gives her an appreciation for the reader’s perspective. She knows
the value of an accurate and comprehensive index – and has experienced
the frustration of having to make do with a poor one.
Professional
attitude…
Melanie understands that timeliness, as well as quality, are important
factors for her clients. When a project is accepted, she works with the
client to understand their requirements. Depth of index desired, intended
audience, and state textbook standards are some of the variables involved
in producing an index that meets with the client’s needs and expectations.
With these variables in mind, an index is created and delivered on deadline.
